The Primary thematic curriculum is centred around the core concepts of Excite, Explore and Excel, allowing pupils to become excited about the context of a theme, explore the learning opportunities a theme offers and ultimately to excel academically and personally. The curriculum covers National Curriculum subject areas in the form of essential skills, with each theme having a particular subject focus, as well as links to other subject areas.

Mental health and wellbeing is integrated into the curriculum with at least one lesson per theme focusing on mental health and wellbeing, specific wellbeing activities within two or more lessons per theme and evidence-based strategies from Wellbeing and Attitudes to Learning: Survey and Strategies.
