The Future of PSHE by Series Editor Catherine Kirk

" What could be more important than this?"

2020 saw the implmentation of statutory RSE and Health Education in seondary schools across the country, marking the culmination of many years of campaigning, wishing and hoping by those in the PSHE field. Exciting times!

2020 also marked my 20th anniversary as a PSHE/RSE specialist. Over the years I have experienced all aspects of PSHE/RSE, from supporting schools to develop policy and curriculum, creating resources and helping staff to develop skills and confidence to be delivering directly to pupils (often the best part!).

Brook

“Brook has been at the forefront of providing wellbeing and sexual health support for young people for over 55 years. We fight tirelessly every day for young people’s right to access inclusive education and services. We firmly believe that all children and young people have the right to quality relationships and sex education (RSE) as part of broader personal, social health and economic education (PSHE). Hodder's Explore PSHE series explores pertinent RSE topics and supports both students and teachers through tried and tested lessons.” – Brook

Forward

With the new compulsory RSE curriculum coming to schools this year, FORWARD believes that schools need all the support they can get to help them deliver appropriate and accurate training to their students on such sensitive subjects as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Explore PSHE will provide best practice and invaluable help and confidence for teachers to tackle these issues and ensure that students understand what FGM is; a harmful and illegal practice that is a violation of human rights. It will also alert teachers to the importance of cultural competence to ensure that pupils are not stereotyped/ profiled and those who are affected access the appropriate support swiftly.” - Forward

Mind UK

"Children and young people today are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of looking after their mental health and wellbeing, and often turn to their schools for support. Mind is proud to work with Hodder, to support children and young people in gaining the knowledge and skills they need to understand what can affect their mental health and what they can do when there’s a problem, as well as school staff in providing the right information and guidance to support their pupils." - Mind
