How has the AQA B specification changed?

  • AQA’s GCSE Religious Studies B specification follows a modular approach. There are now six units, any one of which can be taken as a short course and any two of which can be a combined to make a full course
  • Within each unit (except Unit 6 - Worship and Key Beliefs), there is free choice to study one, two or more religions from a choice of six (Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism)
  • Citizenship and PSHEE statutory requirements are now covered by Unit 1 (Religion and Citizenship)
  • New topics such as religion and music and religion and contemporary society have been introduced
  • Flexible assessment opportunities allow centres to enter candidates between Years 10 and 11 or at the end of Year 11, with a re-sit option the following year
  • There is no controlled assessment or coursework, just written exams
