How do the ebooks work?

The ebook part of your bundle is in VitalBook^TM format and contains all of the content of the print book. You can download the ebook to your computer, your iOS or Android^TM smart phone or tablet, or access it anywhere with an internet browser. The ebook uses VitalSource^® Bookshelf – an ebook reader which enables you to:

• download the ebook to your computer or access it anywhere with an internet browser;
• search the full text of all of the ebooks that you hold on your Bookshelf;
• link through from references to PubMed;
• make and share notes and highlights on your ebooks;
• copy and print text and figures;
• customize your view by changing font size and layout.

You will find a scratch-off panel on the inside front cover of your print copy of the book which you will need to access your ebook.

Accessing the ebook
 

Download and read offline

Downloading the ebook to your computer is a three-step process:

1. Download the VitalSource Bookshelf. If you don't already have VitalSource Bookshelf, you will need to download it. Go to http://bookshelf.vitalsource.com and follow the instructions on screen to download the VitalSource Bookshelf to your PC or Mac.
2. Create your account. Once installation is complete, double click the VitalSource Bookshelf icon that appears on your Desktop and click the Register for an Account button to create your account. Fill out the form completely, including the redemption code shown on the scratch-off panel on the inside cover of your print copy of the book. Then click the Register button.
3. Download your ebook. Once the redemption code has been redeemed your ebook will download automatically onto your bookshelf.

If you already have the VitalSource Bookshelf on your computer, select Redeem Code from the Account menu, enter the code, and click the OK button. Once the redemption code has been redeemed your ebook will download automatically onto your bookshelf. 

 

Access online

Alternatively you may prefer to access your ebook online:

1. Create your account at https://online.vitalsource.com/user/new - fill out the form and click the Register button.
2. Enter your code. Once you are registered and signed in, click the Account link at the top of the screen and select Redeem. Enter the redemption code shown on the scratch-off panel on the inside cover of your print copy of the book in the Code To Redeem box and press Enter.
3. Open your ebook. Once the redemption code has been redeemed you will be able to view your ebook online, by clicking on its name in Online.

Access on your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad

You can download books to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad using the VitalSource Bookshelf App. You can find  more information at:

Access on your Android^tm smart phone or tablet

You can download your books to your Android^tm smart phone or tablet using the free VitalSource Bookshelf App available via the Google Play market. You can find more information at http://support.vitalsource.com/kb/android/welcome.

Adding new titles

Once you have created your account you can access the titles on your bookshelf and redeem new codes both online, by going to http://online.vitalsource.com/, and offline, by launching your Bookshelf application.
